A Behind The Scenes Story
If you've followed along for a while, you know that God loves to show up in the details of this work. He speaks in so many ways, through a word, a song, a stranger, a dream. And often, more times than not, through a consultation call and a nudge I leaned into. This is one of those times, and I've been wanting to share it for a while.
Part of what I love most about designing prayer spaces is that every single client comes with a story. A unique walk. A specific season. And during consultations, I get the incredible privilege of sitting with people sharing pieces of that, listening, taking notes, and quietly asking God afterwards: what do You want to say to this person through this?
After a consultation with one of my last clients, when I hung up the phone, something stayed with me. She spoke with such grace and eloquence, you know… the kind we sometimes use when we're carrying something heavy but don't want it to show. I heard her. All of her.
I did what I knew to do.
I prayed.
And in that quiet place with Him for her, Psalm 139 came rushing in.
"How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can't even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!" — Psalm 139:17-18
I sat with that for a long moment. Read it again. And then I felt it… the quiet, unmistakable nudge of the Holy Spirit saying, bring this to life.
So I went shopping.
I browsed a few stores before I found the right one. Because it had to be right. Not just any vase, the one that felt intentional, the one that felt like her. And when I found it, I knew.
Then came the sand. And I want to be clear, I did not want colored fillers or decorative substitutes. I wanted real sand. Because the scripture says grains of sand, and I wanted every single grain in that vase to mean something. To actually represent what God was saying to her.
I filled it. And I stepped back.
Not as a decoration. Not as a design element for the sake of aesthetics. But as a daily, tangible reminder sitting right there in her prayer space that God's thoughts toward her are endless. More than every grain of sand on every shore. Uncountable. Intentional. Personal.
You see, a prayer space is never just about the furniture or the lighting or the plants, as beautiful as all of those things are. It is about creating an environment where God can speak to you. Where every detail points you back to Him. Where you can walk in on a Tuesday morning, see a simple vase filled with sand, and be reminded that the God of the universe is thinking about you right now. Endlessly. Without ceasing.
Have you ever thought about that? That while you are going about your day, carrying your burdens, navigating your season, God's thoughts toward you are more than the grains of sand on the shore? That is not poetic language. That is Scripture. That is truth.
"How precious are your thoughts about me, O God."
Precious. That is the word He uses. Not casual. Not occasional. Precious.
This is what Scripture Made Tangible means to me. It is one of my favorite things to do for my clients because it takes a truth they may have read a hundred times and gives it a physical home in their sacred space. Something they can see. Something they can touch. Something that will quietly preach to them every single day.
If you have a prayer space already, I want to encourage you to think about this: is there a scripture that has been speaking to you lately? One that keeps coming back? One that feels personal and specific to your season? Write it down. Sit with it. And ask God how He might want to bring it to life in your space.
And if you don't have a prayer space yet, friend, that is exactly what I am here for. I would be so honored to create one for you, a beautiful and intentional space where God can meet you daily and speak to you in ways that are personal, specific, and deeply His.
Because consistency with God begins with creating real space for Him.
